
Our History Building Communities One House at a Time
1991 – Solano Habitat for Humanity (SHfH) is founded by a grass-roots group of Solano County residents as a charity organization, dedicated to eliminating sub-standard housing in their community
1994 – A duet in Fairfield is the first houses completed by the affiliate
1995 – Solano Habitat for Humanity refurbishes a house in Vallejo
1996 – First ‘Blitz Build’ takes place in Vallejo. House is completed in less than one month
1998 – Construction of a duet in Vacaville is completed
2000 – A part-time Executive Director is hired to help focus organizational activities
2002 – Napa County is added to the affiliate’s service area
- Affiliate moves into its first office space in Suisun City
- “Capital to Communities” Two-House Build in Benicia is completed. Representatives from both
- Houses of Congress participate – U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer and Congressional Representative George Miller
2004 – A third house is completed in Fairfield
- Construction on a second duet on Rocky Hill Rd. in Vacaville is started
2005 – Affiliate’s name is changed to Solano-Napa Habitat for Humanity to better reflect areas served
2006 – A second duet in Vacaville is completed and dedicated in June
2008 – Fourth house in Fairfield located on Manor Place is dedicated in August
2010 – SNHfH is granted Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) funding from HUD: 4 homes are purchased for rehabilitation and 2 are completed and purchased by low-income families
2011 – Retail space is located for new ‘ReStore’ at 104 Commerce Court
- ReStore grand opening is held on August 26
2012 – Administrative offices move to Fairfield, closer to ReStore
- Final 2 NSP rehabs in Vallejo are completed and houses sold
- Major rehab project in Napa, funded by a Bank of America Grant, begins
- Smaller rehab projects in Napa County are funded by Gasser Foundation Grants
- Construction of 2 new houses at ‘Habitat Corner’ in Fairfield begins
2013 – New ‘Habitat Corner’ homes on Acacia Street, Fairfield are dedicated in August
- Work begins on repair project in American Canyon for disabled veteran
2014 – Groundbreaking takes place on 2 new homes on corner of Missouri and Taylor Streets in June
- American Canyon repair project is completed
- Major repair project on Arboreo Street in Napa takes place
2015 – First repair project partnering with “Our Town St. Helena” takes place on Voorhees Circle
- Major repair project for disabled veteran on Pine Street in Napa takes place
- Construction is complete and dedication of 2 new Fairfield homes on Missouri Street takes place in September
- Office space on Fulton Drive is doubled in size to accommodate increased staffing and volunteer base for upcoming multiple build projects
2016 – Affiliate purchases lot on Tregaskis Avenue in Vallejo for one new home to be built
- ReStore takes over entire building on Commerce Court in May, now occupying over 16,000 square feet
- Vallejo groundbreaking ceremony takes place in July
- Affiliate purchases lot on So. Jackson Street in Dixon in August, for affiliate’s first Veteran’s build, partnering with Community Action North Bay (CAN-B)
- Dixon groundbreaking ceremony takes place in September
- Affiliate purchases lot on Saratoga Drive in September from City Of Napa for first new home build in Napa County
- “Hard Hats & Heels” fundraiser for Napa build held in October at Central Valley Hardware in Napa
- Major critical repair project in Napa completed, assisting disabled homeowner with much needed home repairs
2017 – Napa groundbreaking ceremony takes place in January, first new home build site in Napa County
- Started demolition at Veteran’s Build site on S. Jackson Street in Dixon
- Held Family Services Orientation Meeting in Napa to find family for Saratoga Drive home
- Completed Critical Repair Project in Vacaville modifying home for Runyon family’s disabled son
- Collaborated with Home Depot and CVNL on major project at Veteran’s Home in Yountville
- “Out of Africa” fundraiser for Napa build held at Tres Sabores Winery in Yountville
- Recology Solano County holds golf tournament at Rancho Solano, with all net proceeds earmarked for our Veteran’s Build in Dixon
- State Senator Bill Dodd selects SNHFH as “Non-Profit of the Year” in his district
- Foundation is poured at Tregaskis Avenue build site in Vallejo in July
- Held 4th Annual ReStore/Family Services picnic at Girl Scout site in Cordelia
- “Habitat by the Bay” fundraiser for Tregaskis Avenue build held at Cal Maritime Academy in Vallejo
- ReStore celebrates 6th Year Anniversary
